How To Read Ovulation Test Results

Being able to read your ovulation test results easily and accurately is very important. The last thing you want to do is to guess.

So let me breakdown how to easily interpret your results for you.​

Ovulation Kits comes in two ways:

  • Midstream
  • Ovulation Test Strips

Both are reliable and accurate. But usually ovulation test strips are cheaper and comes in large quantity like the [email protected] or Wondfo brands.

The major difference between the two is ovulation strips requires you to dip in urine while you can just pee on a midstream one.​

They also display results differently, which I am going to discuss in this post.​


How to interpret the Ovulation results

Midstream Test result Interpretation

  • If using a midstream test follow the instruction in the pack and do this:

Results for midstream usually shows in about 3-5 minutes.

Positive Test result: It is a positive result if the two bands are visible and the colour of the test band is of a darker intensity than the control band. This means ovulation is happening and you should ovulate within the next 12-36 hours.

Negative Test result: It is a negative result if the two bands are visible but the colour of the test band is lighter than the control band. Or if the test band cannot be seen at all.This means there is no LH Surge and you should keep testing daily.

Invalid Test result: If the control band is not visible at all after 5 minutes. This means the test is not valid. You should test again with a new test kit.


Ovulation Test strips result Interpretation

  • If using an ovulation strip follow the instruction in the pack and do this:

Results for test strips usually shows in about 3-5 minutes.

Positive Test result: If the two bands are visible both the control band and the test band. And the colour of the test band is of a darker intensity compared to the control band. This means your LH has surged. You would ovulate in the next 12-36 hours.

Negative Test result: It is a negative result if the two lines are visible but the colour of the test band is lighter(faint line) than the control band. Or if the test band cannot be seen at all. This means there is no LH Surge yet and you should keep testing daily.

Invalid Test result: If the control band is not visible at all after 5 minutes. This means the test is not valid or the test was not performed currectly. You should test again with a new test kit.


Most brands such as Clearblue, First Response, Answers e.t.c have customised instructions that comes with the pack on how the ovulation kit works and how to use them.
