What is the cause of Menstrual Cramps After Mensuration?
1. Uterine Incapacity
Every month, the uterus expels blood in the form of period if you are not pregnant. Uterine incapacity is the uterus inability to expel all of its blood during mensuration.
If the uterus does not completely shed all of its lining during your period, it causes unusual bleeding or discharge after period.
This unusual vaginal bleeding may be accompanied by menstrual like cramping.
2. Hormonal Imbalance
A woman's menstrual cycle is largely controlled by two sex hormones: estrogen and progesterone. In the first phase of your menstrual cycle, the estrogen hormone dominates and continues to rise until ovulation.
At ovulation, the estrogen hormone level declines, while the progesterone hormone dominates the second phase of the menstrual cycle.
The function of the progesterone is to thicken the lining of the uterus.
If there is a disruption in the level of this hormones at each stage of the menstrual cycle, it can lead to post period cramps and spotting.
3. Birth Control (iUD)
IUD stand for intrauterine Device. It is a t shaped plastic or a copper birth control device that is inserted into the womb of a woman to prevent her from getting pregnant.
Some women, in their first three months of using IUD complain of having lower abdominal pain.
If you have bad cramps from using an intrauterine device, see your healthcare provider immediately.
Cramping and light bleeding is expected for a few days after inserting the IUD. But if the cramping is severe, this may be an indication that the device isn't inserted correctly.
4. Uterine Fibroids
Uterine Fibroids are very common in women. In fact 1 in every 3 women have it.
Fibroids are non-cancerous muscular growth that develop inside or around the womb.
Some women are completely unaware that the have fibroids because the do not have any symptoms.
One of the symptoms of uterine fibroids is lower abdominal pain and lower back pain.
Endometriosis is a condition in which the tissues that are found in the lining of the uterus(womb) start to grow in other areas of the body.
It starts to grow in areas such as:
- Fallopian tube
- Pelvic region

Other symptoms are pain during intercourse, bleeding and spotting between your periods, stomach aches.
Implantation happens in the very early stages of pregnancy. It happens about a few days after conception has occurred.

The implantation process may be associated with cramping and light pink discharge spotting.
Implantation cramps happens about a week before period is due.
The cramping is mild and feels like prickling pains in the lower abdomen.
How Do you get rid of cramps?
1. Omega three Fatty Acid
Omega three fatty acid has been shown to help with menstrual cramps than even the most talked about pain reliever.
Studies has shown that daily doses of omega three fish oil supplements can help alleviate the symptoms of period pain. Symptoms such as lower abdominal pain, headaches and nausea.

2. NOn Steriod Anti-Inflammatory Drugs
NSAID such as ibuprofen, aspirin, dicoflenac, naproxen help relieve period pains caused by cramping in the uterus.
These drugs work by stopping the production of prostaglandins which in turn stops you from feeling the pain.
One of the health benefits of exercising is, it helps in reducing period pain. While that sounds like exercising when having muscle pain is a no no. A 30 minutes work out is actually good for you. It enables proper blood and oxygen flow through out the body including your uterus.
During exercise, you release beta-endorphins(human morphine).This helps to produce pain relief by burning out prostaglandins.
4. Heat Treatment
Heat is a very good source of pain relief. It helps to relax contractions and muscle spasm.
The muscles in the walls of the uterus relaxes when a heating pad is applied in the location where the pain is felt.
If you have no heating pad, a hot water bottle also does the job.
Just make sure, you wrap the hot water bottle with a piece of cloth to avoid burning your skin.
5. Drink Ginger Tea
Studies have proved that ginger is a very good cure for menstrual cramps. Ginger is more than just a spice. It is also has medicinal purposes.
A study done by the university of Maryland, confirms that ginger can be used to treat pain during mensuration and as well as sickness during pregnancy.
