THE 3 stages of your menstrual cycle
Before we go further, let take a quick look at the 3 stages of your menstrual cycle so you can properly understand what goes on and why cramping occurs.
The first stage deals with the shedding of the uterus lining. The uterus contracts to expel the lining of the uterus as your period(blood flow).
The second phase is the ovulatory phase (the release of a matured egg from the ovary). This occurs about 10-14 days after your period is over. This depends on the length of your cycle and how long your period last of course.
The next phase is the luteal phase( Phase after ovulation). This is when there is an increased level of progesterone hormone. The main aim of this increase is to thicken the lining of the uterus to prepare it as a home for a fertilised egg.
If no fertilisation occurs, it is then shed as blood in the next 14 days.
So this cycle continues each month in this 3 stages.
